Hello – Jack again.

I’ve now edited all of the photos Dad and I took on the last day of the ride and uploaded them here.

I’ll add any additional photos I receive as I get them.

Please note that the thumbnails on the photos here have a few heads cut off – I didn’t do that for fun, the system does it automatically (when you click it you’ll see the full photo, head and all!) …but the system saves me hours of editing.  Hope that’s ok.

If you see a photo of yourself you’d like then it’s simple to get hold of the original.

Each photo has a number when you click through (if you click again you get the much bigger image).

As Pack 3 were the first in each day (Note: Unverified source …….from Pack 3!) they always enjoyed a hot shower and settled into a comfortable camp to ensure they were well rested to welcome the other Packs as they came in an hour or 2 later.

Also, because of the sort of guys they are, Pack 3 also did the washing for all Packs – below if a pic of them hard at work.

As Dad and I pulled in with some Packs outside the Mount Warning Hotel there were a few tears being shed by the riders.

The Mount Warning Hotel has been a favourite watering hole for riders keen to rehydrate as they head for lunch at Tumbulgum.

Sadly, the hotel burnt down in a pretty ferocious fire in late February.

Pretty sure this is the photo Dad took of the amazing Pack 5 (who thrived under the astute leadership of Reg Young …..and it’s not even Reg saying that!) in front of the Hotel.  As you can see, the weather wasn’t the best!

They’ve made it.

The riders have arrived at the finsih of an epic Sydney to Surfers ride, with fantastic weather (until today!), fast riding and a wonderful group of very special people.

Photos Galore

My Dad and I took over 1,000 photos today – we were the cool guys (cough) on the motorbikes.

We’ll edit them over the next few days and post them all up here – if you see one you like, let me know on jack@sydneytosurfers.org.au and I’ll send you the high resolution version.  All free.

As all the readers know, Pack 8 has been the standout this year.

Without question the best looking pack, the youngest average age and, according to all reports, the most charming.

No opinion here – I just report the facts!

Sure, that might be because our fantastic sponsor of many years Fraser is in it (!), but it’s also because of the tremendous team spirit.

Here’s Fraser and Peter, who looks like a bit of a ride veteran in his 2007 jersey (good on you Peter) enjoying their one and only beer of the ride (cough).

Great riding lads and good luck tomorrow over the ranges.  They’re tough, but you guys are tougher!

My Dad and I are heading to Kyogle tomorrow (from the Gold Coast) at 5.30 am.

We’ll get loads of photos of the riders doing the ranges and into Murwillumbah.

We’ll take lots of photos and get a few up on the web site by about 1 pm. I’ll then edit and upload the rest of the photos over the few days after that (it can take quite a while).

We don’t think we’ll be able to make the finish (riders will leave Broadbeach for the 20 minute ride to SeaWorld resort at 3 pm), but will try.

What a wonderful effort by all the riders and thanks for supporting such a great cause.

The last day of the big ride tomorrow with a push over the ranges from Kyogle, into Murwillumbah and then Tumbulgum.

It’ll be a sad day for some riders – those that love a beer – because the old Uki pub burnt down a couple of months ago.  Many riders have stopped at the pub over the years for a refreshing ale.

Robbie McEwen To Ride From Tumbulgum

Australian cycling legend Robbie McEwen is meeting up with riders at Tumbulgum and will accompany riders into Surfers, where most riders will have a break at Broadbeach near the Surf Life Saving Club opposite the mall.

Robbie has been challenged to a sprint race over 500 metres by most riders* and are expected to lose by about 300 metres!

Not only is Robbie an incredible cyclist, but he’s also a brilliant bloke.  He helped me prepare and supported a ride I did for charity back in 2008.  You couldn’t meet a nicer guy.

He’s has also donated and signed gear over the years (including one of his stage-win jerseys from Le Tour) for the Sydney to Surfers End of Ride dinner.

Thanks for the support of the Sydney to Surfers, Robbie – it’s been much appreciated and helpful to so many.

Its was a pretty comfortable 130 km ride into Kyogle today, with some packs getting in at lunchtime.

It’s been overcast much of the day with a little breeze, perfect conditions for cycling.

The riders have arrived in Kyogle in high spirits – my informant (Kevin, the Ride Secretary) tells me it’s the noisiest bunch ever so every one must be having a great time.

A different perspective

Tonight’s dinner is split between Casino and Kyogle – about 60 people are staying in Casino because of a shortage of accommodation in Kyogle.
