Our final update before the ride

Are you excited yet?! We are, and we can’t wait to meet everyone at Hornsby on Saturday morning.

This is our final note to you before the ride and we just wanted to let you know a bit about what will happen when we roll in to Sea World Resort on Friday afternoon.

Don’t forget that you need to wear your new 2017 ride kit on Friday. After lunch, packs will gather at Kurrawa Surf Club. From here, the Youth Off The Streets Pack will lead the entire group under police escort for the last 10 kilometres along the famous Surfers Paradise beaches and into the gala finish at Sea World Resort.

It’s not often you get to ride in a peloton of around 150 riders: this finish is very special and something you won’t want to miss! But…. we need everyone to ride carefully and be alert to those around them. The final turn into the carpark can be congested – just keep riding on into the carpark and wait until you’ve passed well through the finish banner before you find space to pull over.

Have a close look at the area where we will finish so you know what to expect.

If you have visitors meeting you at the finish, let them know that we expect to get into Sea World around 3.30pm (although much depends on how things go on the day – you may update your guests when we meet at Kurrawa Surf Club).

The finish line will be in the car park just past Sea World Resort (at Muriel Henchman Drive) here. Please ensure your guests do not park in the boat trailer parking area – council rangers are likely to be present to enforce parking restrictions.

For those having their bike transported back to Sydney, you’ll need to pack and tag your bike and get it loaded onto the appropriate truck. Your luggage will have been delivered to Sea World Resort where you’ll be accommodated and enjoy the final dinner.

Now you’re free to celebrate the end of the ride, relax and look forward to the final dinner. We’ll have refreshments available at the finish and we’re aiming to get a group photo if we can. We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to mingle and reflect on what you’ve achieved over the last 7 days.

When you’re ready, head on into the resort to check in to your accommodation; don’t forget, you will need to have a valid credit card with you when you check in. You’ll have time to relax, shower and change before we get together again for the final dinner. The plan for the evening is as follows:

  • 5.00 pm Gather for pre-dinner drinks in the Waterfall Cafe (Normal cash bar service at your own cost).
  • 6.00 pm Move to Shoreline Restaurant for Dinner (Buffet dinner is complimentary for riders and $50 per person for guests payable in cash on entry. Beverages at own cost in cash).
  • 8.00 pm Move to Ocean Room for presentations and live auction.
  • 8.30 pm Presentations and auctions commence.
  • 10.30pm Presentations and auctions finish – you can continue your celebrations in other areas of the resort.

We’ve added several more items to our auctions. You can check out what’s on offer on our live auction page – pick your favourites and come along ready to bid generously on the night. You can also bid on a range of other items on our online auction page. The online auctions will close prior to the final dinner and items must be paid for and collected at the dinner.

A couple of final reminders:

  • It’s not unusual for packs to have a Super hero day so think about bringing  something suitable to wear or add to your ride kit for that day.
  • On one night during the ride, dinner will include a Ladies Only Table – it’s a great opportunity to frock up for those who want to participate.
  • Finally, we encourage riders to continue your fundraising efforts during the week, particularly through keeping your networks updated with your progress on the ride.

If you have any questions which have not already been answered, please contact us.

Riders, the crew is ready to go and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning.

Kind Regards
