On Tuesday 13 June riders, support crew and Youth Off The Streets gathered at
Engadine RSL for the final accounting of the 2017 Sydney to Surfers Ride. Father Chris Riley, Veronica Robinson, Luke Robinson (Ken’s grandson), and Fraser and Kay Mackay-Sim were special guests for the evening.
Steve Heathcote gave a rundown on this year’s ride including feedback on the extra kilometres on the
3 rd and 4 th riding days. Some people have suggested Steve needs some serious reprogramming as to the meaning of ‘fun’ days.
Several presentations were made during the dinner:
- The Ken Robinson Memorial Trophy, a perpetual award to be given each year to the most outstanding YOTS rider, was presented to this year’s winner.
- Father Chris gave us a short talk on what YOTS have been up to since last year, mainly that they’ve been able to open two new schools, one out west the
other in the eastern suburbs.
- Then the big presentation by Kevin Stuart to Father Chris on behalf of Engadine Rotary, a cheque for $261,000.
The evening concluded when Veronica Robinson drew a winner of the car sponsored by Macsim Fasteners. The winner was Steve Anderson, a regular rider with the YOTS pack for many years – it was a well deserved reward for years of commitment to fundraising for Youth Off The Streets and to the Sydney to Surfers Ride.
